World No Tobacco Day
In celebration of World No Tobacco Day, Marathon Health is continuing their commitment to curb smoking habits by implementing education programs to school students in Dubbo and the surrounding towns, through the use of a peer led model with a focus on healthy messages.
Marathon Health, in partnership with the Cancer Institute of NSW, has identified the need for innovative approaches when working with young people, in a bid to reduce preventable disease. Tobacco smoking is one of the largest preventable causes of death and disease in Australia.
It is associated with an increased risk of a wide range of health conditions including heart disease, diabetes, stroke, cancer, renal disease, eye disease and respiratory conditions such as asthma, emphysema and bronchitis.
Marathon Health, with help from headspace Dubbo, is offering a 10 week education course to secondary schools students.
