Mudgee kids get a Flying Start
Families in regional areas often struggle to access early intervention early childhood specialist health services – that’s where our Flying Start program can help.
Building off the program’s success in remote Western NSW, and thanks to funding from EnergyCo through the Community and Employment Benefit Program, Flying Start is now available in the Mudgee Local Government Area.
Flying Start is a free program that brings a paediatrician and allied health team to regional communities, providing early intervention supports to help kids reach their full potential – giving them a flying start.
Kylie Irvin, Portfolio Manager, NDIS Western said “we’re excited to be providing this much-needed support to local Mudgee families and look forward to collaborating with local services.
“Our team live and work in regional NSW, so we understand how important it is to be able access health services locally.”
Our occupational therapist and speech pathologist will hold fortnightly clinics in Mudgee, where they will complete assessments and provide therapy to support children to reach their developmental milestones, including linking them with other local support services when needed. Additionally, there will be three paediatric clinics each year to help link children with complex needs to the right supports.
The team will also run education sessions for parents and educators, designed to help them identify if their child’s development is on track with expected milestones. The sessions will also equip participants with additional skills and strategies to support their children to reach their full potential.
Accessing the program is easy, anyone can complete a referral [link]. Know someone who could do with some support, or keen to find out more? Complete a referral online today, or you can give our Clinic Coordinator a call on 0419 740 768 to refer over the phone.
This program is proudly funded by EnergyCo through the Community and Employment Benefit Program.
Over the last 12 months, Marathon Health met a critical need in remote Western NSW communities, with more than 50 children accessing holistic paediatric assessments with a multidisciplinary allied health team and Paediatrician with support from Variety – the Children’s Charity NSW/ACT and the NSW Rural Doctors Network. This support has been vital in ensuring kids receive the help they need to get the best start in life and prepare them for their early years at school.
