Helping people to put their best foot forward
We’re thrilled to announce the opening of the Marathon Health Diabetes Foot Health Clinic in Dubbo, a new service designed to address a genuine need in the community and demonstrate our ongoing commitment to prevention, access, and workforce development.
Recently, Dubbo has experienced a shortage of podiatrists, with seven clinicians leaving local services last year alone. As a result, many people with diabetes have struggled to receive regular foot care – an essential step for maintaining health and preventing complications.
The new clinic aims to fill this gap by offering local, preventative foot care for individuals with diabetes who previously had limited options.
Why is this important?
Diabetes can affect nerves and circulation in the feet, increasing the risk of ulcers and other serious complications. Regular foot care plays a big role in prevention – but only if people can access it.
Early feedback shows just how important this service is. On the clinic’s first day, most clients provided feedback through consumer surveys, which was overwhelmingly positive. One client shared that he had been travelling to Orange for podiatry appointments because he couldn’t to secure treatment in Dubbo.
Stories like this reinforce why local services matter – and why this clinic is such an important addition.
Welcoming Penne to the team
“I am deeply passionate about Diabetes foot care, in particular preventative measures to ensure people live and walk well with their diabetes.”
Penne Steedman – Podiatrist and Diabetes Educator
At this stage, the clinic is open two days per week, and is delivered by Penne Steedman, Podiatrist and Diabetes Educator, who has joined Marathon Health’s Chronic Disease team
Penne’s role reflects our commitment to supporting clinicians to grow, not just filling service gaps. Through Marathon Health, Penne will receive clinical support and development opportunities as she works toward advanced diabetes educator skills, with the aim of adding Credentialed Diabetes Educator (CDE) to her qualifications in the future.
Her addition also strengthens the diversity of allied health disciplines within the Chronic Disease team, supporting more holistic care for clients.
